These are heavier to accommodate higher skill levels and are more versatile. Keep the dumbbells though because they are ideal for beginners and are light enough for young children to use.

Equipment that Takes More Space

There are a couple pieces of equipment that will help move the workouts forward and challenge stamina. A little more space will be needed, if that is possible in the home. One recommendation for a small space is to skip cardio equipment and walk or run outdoors. A spin bike is wonderful for a cardio workout when outside is not feasible. The climate is typically the biggest barrier. If you live where winter, ice, and snow seem to be eternal and longer every year, a used bike will definitely be beneficial.

A punching bag is another option. This will add high intensity to the workout program and proves to be a great way to relieve stress and tension in the muscles. Space is needed in all directions to use this equipment properly. A corner of the room, an alcove, or a large empty closet will do for space. If there is not enough room, see if it will fit better in the garage or basement. Once it is installed, move it as far as possible to make sure there is nothing that can get damaged.
